Designing a Rewards Platform for Metro.Digital: Turning Engagement into Real Benefits

Overview

As a UX Designer at Metro.Digital, I was assigned to design a web application for the Human Resources department, aiming to boost employee engagement by rewarding proactive behavior and participation in company activities. The core idea was to create a points-based system that motivates colleagues to get involved and exchange their earned points for real-life rewards.

Challenge

The rewards program concept was entirely new to the organization, with no internal references or benchmarks.

Stakeholders proposed an overwhelming list of features, making it difficult to define a clear product scope.

It was essential to identify what features would provide immediate value and ensure the app would be intuitive and engaging for first-time users.

My Role & Activities

Led the Discovery Phase, conducting interviews with stakeholders and employees to understand their expectations and motivations.

Organized prioritization workshops to clarify the feature set and align the app’s functionality with business goals.

Designed and delivered a high-fidelity prototype, ensuring a smooth user experience and clear point conversion logic.

Facilitated user testing sessions to validate design decisions and make necessary adjustments before development.

Created detailed UI designs and supported the development team throughout the implementation phase with design reviews, adjustments, and one-on-one support.


Key Features Delivered

A. Points Accumulation Logic based on event participation and role (Moderator, Concept Creator, Promoter, Admin, Spectator).

B. Rewards Catalog showcasing available rewards, detailed descriptions, providers, and redemption options.

C. User Dashboard displaying accumulated points, activity history, and reward redemption progress.

A. Admin Tools for managing events, points allocation, and rewards inventory.

Outcome

Successfully delivered a user-friendly, visually engaging platform that clearly communicates how users can earn and spend their points.

The prioritized feature set allowed the app to launch as an MVP, with the flexibility for future enhancements based on real user feedback.

The solution was well-received by employees, increasing awareness and participation in internal initiatives.

Conclusion

This project provided valuable insights into the importance of a well-organized discovery phase and a user-centered design approach when developing an entirely new concept.
By aligning business objectives with user needs and simplifying

complex requirements, we successfully crafted a functional and motivational rewards platform. This initiative has the potential to significantly enhance workplace engagement and foster a more vibrant organizational culture.
