Designing the Article Composer for Metro.Digital: Simplifying Complexity Across Borders
Overview
As a UX Designer at Metro.Digital, I was responsible for designing the Article Composer, a powerful web application aimed at simplifying the creation and management of product packages for a diverse group of users—Metro employees, transport and delivery teams, storage admins, shop managers, and B2B clients.
The platform brought proper governance to processes that previously relied on disconnected tools and manual interventions. It also enabled seamless integration with Metro’s core administrative, management, and transport systems, connecting internal and international communities and all Metro online shops across different countries.
Challenges
The project introduced a complex and unfamiliar concept that was difficult for the development team and stakeholders to fully understand.
Though the task of creating product packages appeared simple, it involved:
- Managing diverse data from multiple sources.
- Handling geographic, safety, and cross-border legislation considerations.
- Adapting to country-specific regulations and business rules.
- Addressing incomplete or manually provided data from operators.
The app also had to integrate with a vast ecosystem of internal and external platforms, further increasing the design and technical complexity.
My Role & Activities
👉 Led the Discovery Phase, conducting extensive user interviews to understand workflows, challenges, and data complexities.
👉 Facilitated workshops and training sessions to align the team on business needs and technical constraints.
👉 Designed and delivered high-fidelity UI designs and a complete Design System, ensuring visual consistency and scalability.
👉 Managed user testing sessions with real operators for each scenario and functionality to validate solutions in real-world contexts.
👉 Iteratively improved the design based on continuous user feedback and usability testing results.
👉 Provided ongoing support to the development team throughout the implementation process, including design clarifications, UI reviews, and adjustments.
